I ran into my buddy Max at the coffee shop today. I was in a hurry (on my way out of town to see the folks) so we were only able to speak very briefly. But, in that short time he told me about a new project he’s working on called Trees By Bike. I went to the website and checked it out. Looks like they are still getting things organized, but when finished it should be a really great service and a whole lot of fun for everyone involved!

“All of our trees are locally grown and 10% of your order total is donated to specific charities, foundations, and groups depending on who delivers your tree.”

So, If you live in the Portland Metro area and want to get a tree this holiday season, park the car (if you’ve got one) and get it delivered by bike!

P.S. Here is a picture of Max carrying his tree home last year using his Lemolo backpack!

We got hit with a pretty good one this time. It’s been crystal clear skies since the storm which means it’s been cooold cold cold! All the un-graveled side streets are completely iced over in about 1/2 inch of the dangerous stuff. Riding through a bit of snow is one thing, riding on what looks and feels more like a frozen lake than anything else is something completely different. I’m sure you mid-westerners have got some tricks up your sleeve when it comes to this, but we don’t get tooo much of this over here on the west coast so we have to re-learn how to do it each time.

Word on the street is we’ve got another one coming our way to, exciting stuff!

Pictured above is me and my brother Lucas, gotta love the ‘roids! Photos taken in Portland, Oregon on Sunday, December 14th.

Going Green For St. Patrick’s Day!

Portland bike lanes go green for St. Patrick’s Day! Okay, to be honest, the green bike lanes you’ve started to see around Portland don’t have anything to do with St. Patrick’s Day… or do they?! No. They don’t… or do they? Okay, I’ll stop. Or will I?! Sorry… or am I?! I can’t stop!!!!!!!

Bike boxes are being installed and bicycle awareness signs are being erected all over the city. In an effort to be more bike friendly (aka awesome) Portland is painting their existing blue bike lanes an eye catching green and adding a bunch more!

I shot these pictures yesterday before they were finished applying all the green paint. Check it out…

Don’t let all this fancy paint lure you into a false sense of security though! I’m not sure how warm a welcome Portland’s car community are going to give these new bike boxes… only time will tell. I am very intrigued by these though and hope they have good results. This is definitely a move in the right direction. We are one step closer to getting separated bike lanes, which I think would be fantastic! Until then, I’ll take blue, green, or whatever I can get!

Stay safe out there!

be conscious

Stop wasting! I see people wasting and wasting so much everyday and it makes me sick. Think about what you are using only 1 time and throwing away… your plastic starbucks “coffee-milkshake” cup you so casually tossed in the nearest garbage can is not going anywhere for awhile, it’s sitting in a landfill someplace. Just because YOU don’t see it anymore doesn’t mean it’s gone.

I don’t think people understand that recycling is a last resort. don’t get me wrong, i love recycling, if you don’t recycle your an idiot. REDUCE! REDUCE! REDUCE your waste, then REUSE what you can…. then as a last resort RECYCLE!

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m guilty of it to, we all get stuck with excess packaging, plastic grocery bags, etc. But please be conscious of your waste, do what you can, take your own togo coffee mug when you get coffee everyday instead of using a non-recyclable togo cup, take your own bag to the grocery store. The next time a sales clerk asks you if you need a bag, smile and say no thanks!

REDUCE, REUSE, recycle!
