Just picked up a new handlebar for the Kogswell. It’s a bar that got it’s start from the collective minds behind M.A.P. Bicycles and Ahearne Cycles (Mitch and Joseph). It sounded like a bit of a process getting this project to finally develop into something tangible, but it finally did. Personally, I am very happy with the results.

The bar is very similar to the Nitto-made bar I previously had on the Kogswell (sold through Jitensha Studios – click here). A couple differences are quickly noticeable between the two. As you can see from the pictures above, the Ahearne/M.A.P. bar has a nearly identical bend, but with an added 1-2″ overall length and approx. 1″ of rise. It’s a bit beefier than the Nitto bar which may add a little weight comparatively, but I’m certainly not counting grams on the Kogswell that’s for sure! Overall I am very pleased with my new set of handlebars. I’ll post some more photos of the bars on the bike soon. My brother and I are in the process of making some leather grips for it, pictures of those coming as soon as they’re done.

Sounds like you will be able to purchase them direct from Mr. Ahearne himself. See for more info.

  1. So what’s the clamp dia. for these bars? Tried the Jitensha bars before, they’re fine but I thought that some rise would be better. I’m getting a set.

    • mountain diameter (25.4).

If the only thing you felt was missing from your Jitensha bars I think you’ll be very happy with these bars.

  2. You can get Nitto B206, they are Jitensha bars with a 25.4 clamp and now widely available, the bars from Jitensha have a 26 clam
